Discovering New Culinary Landscapes in New Mexico
From vibrant Santa Fe to charming small towns, New Mexico's dining scene is undergoing an exciting transformation. As a dedicated food enthusiast, I'm always on the lookout for the next hot spot to explore. Recently, my culinary adventures led me to Leo’s in Santa Fe—a former auto shop turned restaurant that has taken the community by storm.
On a dreary Friday night, I finally ventured to Leo's, a decision buoyed by the hope that the rain would deter the crowds. To my delight, it did—allowing me to savor their delectable collards and satay ayam without the usual wait. Each bite transported me to new culinary heights, ensuring I returned twice more. When Esquire named Leo’s among the best new restaurants in the country, it reaffirmed my discovery. It’s a perfect embodiment of the fresh, innovative energy reshaping dining experiences across New Mexico.
Embracing Change: A New Look for New Mexico Magazine
This revitalization mirrors the changes happening within New Mexico Magazine. Our redesign process began last summer with a vision to elevate our editorial offerings and enhance the reader experience. Led by the talented John McCauley, we crafted an aesthetic worthy of our beautiful state—combining modern design with elements reflecting New Mexico’s rich culture.
Throughout the process, we experimented with various visual elements. Just as a chef perfects a recipe, we discovered the right fonts, layouts, and colors, ultimately landing on a clean and inviting design. A new body typeface, Publico Text, enhances readability while a well-thought-out color palette featuring hues like adobe and turquoise infuses personality throughout the pages.
Creating Community Through Food and Stories
Food has an incredible way of bringing communities together. Each new restaurant in New Mexico tells its unique story, often rooted deeply in local culture and traditions. This new chapter for New Mexico Magazine aims to highlight these voices, celebrating the individuals and culinary artisans who enrich our neighborhoods.
The heart and soul of local eateries like Leo’s invite diners to connect over shared flavors and experiences, making each meal memorable. Additionally, showcasing various businesses helps strengthen community ties, allowing residents to support local networks. With each bite and column, we hope to foster a sense of belonging and eager anticipation for what’s next in our vibrant culinary landscape.
